
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, saying the incident was reported by the hotel director, manager and receptionist at about 8am.
According to the statement, the deceased had lodged in Room 2 on Monday night with an unidentified male guest, who was allegedly not properly documented by the hotel.
The woman was confirmed dead at General Hospital, Calabar, and her body deposited at the mortuary. Tablets recovered from her handbag were secured as exhibits, although police said no link had been established between the medication and her death.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, ordered a professional and objective investigation to establish the identity of the deceased, the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
