The FCT Police Command has arrested seventy suspects after a raid on identified criminal flashpoints around Unity Fountain in Maitama, following a viral video alleging a robbery incident in the area.
Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered the operation to identify and apprehend anyone connected to the incident.
According to Adeh, police operatives attached to Maitama Division carried out coordinated raids across the affected blackspots in compliance with the directive.
She explained that of the seventy suspects arrested, thirty were screened and released after preliminary investigation, while forty remain in custody as investigations continue.
The PPRO said during the investigation, the victim positively identified two of the suspects as individuals he recognised from the incident. Those two, along with the other suspects still in custody, according to her, remain held while police work to identify and apprehend any additional persons connected to the offence.
The FCT Police Command is urged residents to stay security-conscious and to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
