The Nigerian Navy has warned the public against paying money to anyone in connection with its recruitment, stating that enlistment into the Service is free and that fake recruitment notices are again circulating on social media.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Director Naval Information, Captain AA Folorunsho, said the Navy had observed the repeated circulation of notices on social media platforms and other unofficial channels purporting to announce recruitment exercises.
He stated categorically that such notices are not authorised and should not be regarded as official announcements.
The Navy advised prospective applicants and members of the public to exercise caution and disregard recruitment information obtained from unofficial social media accounts, websites or other unauthorised sources.
It said all official information on recruitment, including eligibility requirements, application procedures, timelines and categories, will be communicated exclusively through its authorised channels.
The Navy listed its official recruitment website as http://www.joinnigeriannavy.navy.mil.ng, while its main website is https://navy.mil.ng.
Members of the public were particularly warned against making payments to individuals, agents or unauthorised platforms in connection with recruitment.
The Service stressed that it does not authorise third parties to recruit applicants or collect fees on its behalf.
The Navy said it will continue to monitor and address the circulation of fraudulent recruitment information and urged the public to rely solely on its official communication channels for accurate and verified details on recruitment exercises.
