President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Nigeria after a four-week working vacation in Europe, choosing to land in Lagos rather than Abuja.
The presidential plane touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had said the aircraft was expected to arrive in Lagos in the evening.
Onanuga explained that the President decided to fly to Lagos first to honour the memory of Chief MKO Abiola, the martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
According to him, Tinubu will attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola, winner of the June 1993 presidential election, on Independence Day at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
Onanuga added that the President will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in Lagos as part of preparations for the 2027 elections. He will return to Abuja after those engagements.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for vacation. He spent one week in London before travelling to Paris

In Paris, he attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
He also met business leaders, among them Mr Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
On Monday, he met the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola.
Last week, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World to build a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and create a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area.
DP World, one of the world’s leading ports and logistics operators, plans to invest $7 billion in the seaport and the economic zone.
