UBEC Unveils 74 Digital Learning Centres, Rehabilitated School In FCT

In line with its commitment to improve basic education in the country, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has unveiled rehabilitation projects in LEA Nursery and Primary School and Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Nyanya Hausawa, Abuja.
Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Aisha Garba who chaired the unveiling on Wednesday also commissioned 74 Digital Learning Centres across the nation.
The project involves the rehabilitation, furnishing and equipment of LEA Nursery and Primary School and Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Nyanya Hausawa, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), FCT, under the UBEC 2025 Direct Intervention Project.
It covers the rehabilitation of three (3) blocks of classrooms, offices, stores and toilets, the drilling of a solar-powered borehole, fence work, and the supply of furniture for pupils, teachers and the head teacher, giving the schools safe, functional and adequately furnished facilities for teaching and learning.
In line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the project is designed to improve the learning environment in the schools, provide adequate classroom, office, storage and sanitary facilities, improve access to water, enhance security, and ensure that pupils and teachers have suitable furniture to support effective teaching and learning.
The completion of the project represents another important step in UBEC’s drive to improve infrastructure in basic education schools across the country. Through this intervention, the Commission seeks to create conducive, safe and hygienic learning environments that support improved access to, and quality of, basic education.
The project deliverables include: Renovation of three (3) blocks of eight (8) classrooms, four (4) offices, four (4) stores and twenty-eight (28) toilets each Drilling of one (1) solar-powered borehole, Fence work, Provision of two hundred (200) pupils’ furniture, Provision of twenty-four (24) sets of teachers’ furniture and Provision of one (1) set of head teacher’s furniture.
Responding, Principal of the school, Mr Gideon Isa said prior to UBEC’s intervention, the school was terribly dilapidated, affecting student enrolment and lesson delivery. He however stated that with the development, teachers were now motivated to deliver their best and student enrollment had improved.
At the Digital Learning Centre located at Model Girls’ Junior Secondary School, AMAC Estate, the Executive Secretary explained that the Centres were designed to strengthen digital literacy and competencies among teachers and learners, improve access to relevant educational resources, and promote the use of technology for more engaging, interactive and effective teaching and learning.
While commissioning the 73 others virtually, Garba informed that Digital Learning Centres were technology-enabled learning facilities established to expand access to digital education and enhance the quality of teaching and learning in basic education schools.
Equipped with ICT devices, digital learning resources, internet connectivity and other supporting infrastructure, the Centres provide an enabling environment for teachers and learners to access and effectively use technology for educational purposes.
They also provide opportunities for teachers to integrate digital tools and resources into classroom instruction while enabling learners to develop essential digital skills for an increasingly technology-driven world.
The commissioning and operationalisation of the Digital Learning Centres across the country represent another important step in UBEC’s drive to integrate technology into basic education and strengthen digital learning.
Through this initiative, the Commission seeks to create more inclusive, innovative and technology-enabled learning environments, bridge the digital divide, and ensure that teachers and learners are better equipped to benefit from the opportunities provided by digital education
