NCAA Mobilises Technical Support For NAF Crash Rescue

By Stella Enenche, Abuja

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has offered technical assistance to support the search and rescue operation following the crash of a Nigeria Air Force aircraft, NGR931, at Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The aircraft was reportedly carrying approximately 32 persons when it crashed, on Monday prompting an emergency response by relevant authorities.

The NCAA, however, clarified that military aviation operations fall outside its regulatory oversight and operational mandate.

Despite this, the Authority said it was prepared to contribute its technical expertise to the national response to the incident.

The NCAA Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, said the Authority was closely monitoring developments and remained in contact with relevant agencies involved in the emergency response.

“While military aviation operations are outside the regulatory oversight and operational mandate of the Authority, the NCAA remains committed to supporting the national response to this incident,” Najomo said.

He added that the Authority would provide whatever technical assistance was required to aid the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

“Accordingly, the NCAA stands ready to provide such technical expertise and assistance as may be required to support the ongoing search and rescue operations,” he said.

Najomo expressed sympathy to the personnel of the Nigeria Air Force, those on board the aircraft, their families and others affected by the crash.

He said the NCAA would continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities in accordance with established national emergency response protocols.

“At this difficult time, the Authority stands in solidarity with the Nigeria Air Force and all those directly affected by this incident,” Najomo said.

“We remain hopeful for a positive outcome and pray for the safety and successful rescue of all involved,” he added.
