The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have entered into a partnership to advance aviation and aerospace education, with a focus on establishing a Faculty of Aeronautical and Space Engineering at AAAU.
According to the AAAU on Friday, the partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by representatives of the two universities, following an earlier meeting between the institutions in May 2026.
Speaking during the engagement, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAAU, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, said the university was seeking ABU’s expertise and mentorship to build the proposed faculty.
He said the move had become necessary given the increasing demand for highly specialised professionals in Nigeria’s aviation and aerospace industry.
Abdullahi also disclosed that AAAU was seeking collaboration with ABU in Online Distance Learning (ODL), leveraging the latter’s experience as one of the institutions that pioneered distance learning in Nigeria.
According to him, ODL would enable the university to extend its programmes to international students and aviation professionals who may be unable to participate in conventional full-time academic programmes because of their professional commitments.
The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Adamu Ahmad, welcomed the initiative and assured AAAU of the university’s support, particularly through its Faculty of Engineering.
Ahmad commended the AAAU leadership for taking on the challenge of developing a university dedicated to aviation and aerospace education, assuring that ABU would support its manpower development objectives.
