It will be recalled that on April 14, 2014, about 276 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram from a secondary school in Chibok, a town in Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
Some of the girls managed to escape, while others were released following government negotiations.
Despite efforts to free all the pupils, however, over 100 of the girls remain in captivity, and at least 16 have been killed, according to global rights group, Amnesty International.
It would be recalled also that on 5 November, 2016, one Maryam Ali Maiyanga, was discovered by troops screening escapees from Boko Haram’s base in the Sambisa forest, near the Cameroon border.
Maiyanga, also one of the abducted schoolgirls, was discovered to be carrying a 10-month-old son named Ali.
Two months later, in January of 2017, another victim, Rakiya Abubakar, was found wandering near a former militant stronghold with her six-month-old baby. She was later reunited with her family.
