Buhari Set To Vacate Office, Establishes Presidential Transition Council

President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday established Presidential Transition Council in preparation to handover power to the next President after the general elections.

Buhari who disclosed this via his twitter handle, also signed Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 on the Facilitation and Management of Presidential Transitions.

The development has put to rest the earlier speculation of possible interim government.

The Presidential Transition Council which would facilitate and manage the 2023 Presidential transition programme would be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

“I have signed Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 on the Facilitation and Management of Presidential Transitions. The new Executive Order puts in place a legal framework for the seamless transition of power from one Presidential Administration to another.

“I have also approved the establishment of a Presidential Transition Council, to be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to facilitate and manage the 2023 Presidential transition programme”, Buhari wrote on his twitter handle.
