Bello Turji’s Ally Eliminated In Sokoto Airstrike

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the elimination of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji’s key ally, Alhaji Shaudo Alku, in an airstrike conducted by the air component of OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA.

The NA on Sunday night said Alku’s death through the airstrikes targeting terrorists near Tunfa Primary School in Isa LGA, Sokoto State, has dealt a significant blow to the terrorist leader.

Bello Turji Kachalla, popularly known as Turji, is a notorious Nigerian terrorist and bandit leader operating in North-western Nigeria, particularly Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger states, whose activities have led to the death of over 200 persons in these areas. Turji and his operations have in recent times suffered several blows dealt on him by the military. He was forced to relocate his kidnapped victims to a new hideout in the eastern part of Dutsin Birnin Yaro due to intense military pressure in Fakai.

Also, early this year, the military killed his son in Zamfara state during a clearance operation targeting terrorist hideouts along the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axis. Turji’s son was neutralized at Fakai high ground, where the terrorists were hiding. The military also rescued several kidnapped victims and destroyed the terrorists’ logistics base. The Defence Headquarters described Turji as a “coward” for abandoning his son and fighters during the military offensive.

The NA said Turji’s ally, Alku, who was invited from Niger Republic for a meeting, died alongside several men and unconfirmed commanders.

“This development is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist operations in the region. Further details will follow”, the Service said.
