Corruption Allegations: LP Sets Up Disciplinary Committee Against National Treasurer
The Leadership and National Working Group of Labour Party (LP) has set up a disciplinary committee to try the National Treasurer, Ms Oluchi Opara for bringing the party to disrepute and misinforming the general public on the internal affairs of the party against the rules and regulations of the party.
LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday said, rising from the emergency meeting of the NWC yesterday, February 13, 2024, in Abuja, and presided over by the Deputy National Chairman, Mrs. Ladi Iliya, the party extends an invitation to the National Treasurer to appear before it on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, by 10am at the Conference Hall of the Party National Headquarters.
He said, the party leadership is also calling on the teaming members of the party to be patient with it while it also assures that the ill wind will soon be resolved.
Recall that the National Treasurer in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday accused the party leadership of embezzling the N3.5 billion, proceeds from the sales of forms and other fundraising activities for the 2023 general elections.
Ms Opara who spoke boldly on Arise TV alleged that the signature of the former chairman of the party, late Abdulkadir Salami, was forged two months after his death to withdraw money from the party’s account.
“Next, I raised the issue of money laundering, misappropriation, and a whole lot of embezzlement that happened.
“I also stated the fact that the signature of the late national chairman of our party, Salami, was forged two months after his death to withdraw money from the account.
“How on earth did he come out from his grave to come and sign signature?” she asked.
She also accused the National Chairman of the party of anti-party activities. She claimed that the chairman of the party, Julius Abure, is secretly working with the Peoples Democratic Party government in Edo State, challenging him to come out and deny it.
“So if the national chairman feels I’m lying, let him come out clear and say that I have lied against him”, she said.
