A Federal High Court in Lokoja has sentenced a man, Akoji Jonah, to five years’ imprisonment for vandalising armoured transformer cables belonging to Kogi State Electricity Development Limited (KEDL).
The judgment was delivered on Monday, October 19, 2026, by a judge of High Court 2, Lokoja.
The court found Jonah guilty of damaging the cables at Biraidu Community in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He was prosecuted by the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on charges relating to the vandalism of critical electricity infrastructure and economic sabotage, under the applicable laws.
The Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, welcomed the verdict and praised the Command’s Legal Unit, led by its Officer in Charge, DCC Ike F. Ugochukwu, for diligence and professionalism in handling the case.
He said the success was made possible by thorough investigation carried out by the Command’s intelligence and investigation personnel, which made it easier for the legal team to prosecute.
In a statement on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Aliyu Abdullahi, the Commandant described the judgment as a strong deterrent to individuals and groups involved in the destruction of public utilities and other critical national assets.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting national infrastructure and ensuring that vandals are brought to justice.
He also warned criminal elements to stop acts capable of disrupting electricity supply, undermining economic development and threatening public safety.
According to him, the Command will sustain its operational and intelligence driven efforts to rid Kogi State of vandals and other economic saboteurs.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity installations and other critical infrastructure to the appropriate security agencies.
It said it remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives, property and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across Kogi State.
