NDLEA Alerts Public On Fraudulent Vehicle Auction

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted the public to a fraudulent scheme in which scammers are impersonating senior officials of the agency to offer fake sales of forfeited vehicles.

The agency said on Friday that the fraudsters have been using the name of its Secretary, Barrister Shadrach Haruna, to circulate bogus letters and messages claiming to offer forfeited vehicles at discounted prices.

NDLEA described the offers as fraudulent and warned that they are aimed solely at defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

The agency stressed that no NDLEA official is authorised to privately sell, allocate or offer forfeited vehicles or any other seized assets. It explained that all forfeited assets are disposed of only through public auctions conducted by government-approved auctioneers, with such exercises widely advertised in national newspapers and on the Amagency’s official communication platforms in accordance with due process.

The anti-narcotics agency urged members of the public to disregard and report any private letters, text messages or social media messages purporting to originate from Barrister Shadrach Haruna or any other NDLEA official offering vehicles or other forfeited assets for sale.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the NDLEA advised anyone approached with such fraudulent offers to report the matter to the nearest NDLEA command or through the Agency’s official communication channels.
