The Deputy Inspector General of Police, South-South geopolitical zone, DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro, has averred that partnership with communities is key in policing which has become everybody’s business.
The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, in a statement, said DIG Pedro made the call on Wednesday when he visited the Command to boost the morale of officers as well as to enhance Police community relations.
Before the commencement of his tour, the DIG, who is also the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the Nigeria Police Force, paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori at the Government House, Asaba, where he noted that the State Government has been of immense help to the Police Force in the State and solicited more support from the State Government and the people.
Responding, the Governor appreciated the leadership of the Police Force, particularly the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for finding some officers in the state deserving of an award, noting that the award is a sign that the Police in the state are working and ensuring that the state is safe and secured.
The Governor promised to buy vehicles for the Police that will be commissioned by the Inspector General of Police.
Addressing officers and men of the command after the brief meeting with the stakeholders, DIG Pedro warned them against extortion, abuse of human rights, and most importantly policing with a human face.
He admonished them to brace up to meet the security challenges in the state, and while doing that, to be mindful of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry.
He further emphasized the importance of knowing when to use their firearms in accordance with the extant rules of the force as stipulated in Force Order 237 and Force Order 88.
The DIG commended the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi for his effort in fighting crime, noting that the achievements within the very short time he has worked in the State are laudable.
DIG Pedro was accompanied on the visit by the AIG Zone 5, AIG Arungwa Nwazue Udo.
