Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) paid ₦385.44billion into the electricity market in the second quarter of 2026, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The figure is contained in the Commission’s Q2 2026 operational and commercial performance report, which gives an overview of key operational, commercial, metering and regulatory developments across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
The report shows that the DisCos achieved an overall market remittance rate of 94%. The payment settled invoices issued by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) and the Market Operator (MO).
On power generation, grid-connected plants recorded a 90% plant load factor in the quarter, with an average hourly output of 4,022.40 MWh/h.
In terms of billing and collection, total energy billed stood at ₦744.67billion, representing a billing efficiency of 79%. Total revenue collected was ₦603.64billion, a collection efficiency of 81%.
On metering, the DisCos installed meters for 350,270 additional customers during the period, which lifted the national metering rate to 62%.
Loss performance, however, remained a concern. The average actual Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) loss across the DisCos was 36%, well above the average allowed target of 16.92%.
On regulatory oversight, NERC said it issued 64 regulatory instruments in the quarter under the powers granted by the Electricity Act 2023.
These included 35 orders and 18 Market Service Provider (MSP) and Metering Asset Provider (MAP) certificates.
