The Federal Ministry of Education has strongly refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked.
In a statement issued by its Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade on Monday, the Ministry described the report as entirely false, irresponsible, and capable of causing unnecessary panic, fear, and anxiety among parents, guardians, and the general public.

Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni in a statement on Sunday said.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), successfully foiled an attempted mass abduction by ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, at about 0130 hours (1:30 a.m.) on 19 July 2026”.
The FGGC facility is currently being utilized by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.
The Ministry however stated that “there was no attack on Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno. The school remains safe and secure, with all students, staff, and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for. Academic, boarding, and other school activities are continuing uninterrupted in a peaceful environment”.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security, and welfare of every learner in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government. He noted that FGGC, Monguno, operates under robust security arrangements, to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff, and school facilities.
The Minister further clarified that no student of Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno, was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the school on Media. He explained that the individuals affected were remedial students outside the college, while the Borno State Government was already taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The Ministry therefore urged members of the public, Media particularly social media users, bloggers, and online platforms, to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing or sharing it.
“The deliberate spread of unverified information not only misinforms the public but also creates needless fear, undermines public confidence, and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for Nigerian students.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to remain calm and continue to support their children with confidence, as there is no security threat at Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno.
“The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to working closely with relevant security agencies, state authorities, and school managements to sustain the safety and security of all Federal Government Colleges across the country”, the statement concluded.
Boriowo also informed that the Ministry would continue to provide timely and accurate information through its official communication channels and advise the public to disregard the fake report in its entirety.
