NiMet Secures ISO Certification For Aero-Met Services At Three Airports

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification f,or the provision of aeronautical meteorological services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri airports.
According to the agency on Tuesday, the certification followed a third-party audit conducted by Certech Inc., Canada, from July 20 to 23, 2026, during which NiMet’s products and services at the three airports were assessed against the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
The development is in line with the directive of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to NiMet’s Director-General Prof. Charles Anosike, to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and sustain the upward trajectory of Nigeria’s ratings with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Following the successful audit, Certech issued a revised certificate confirming that NiMet’s quality management system conforms to ISO 9001:2015 requirements for the provision of meteorological services to the aviation industry.
In a letter dated July 26, 2026, signed by Certech’s Lead Auditor and Director, Frank Strohmeier, the Canadian certification body said, “The audit objectives for the surveillance audit were achieved,” adding that a systematic process audit was conducted with emphasis on risks and objectives under ISO 9001:2015.
The latest certification also saw NiMet successfully recertified at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Enugu International Airport and Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
The agency said the certification, which is valid for three years, will be subjected to annual surveillance and maintenance audits before the next recertification exercise in 2029.
Reacting to the development, Anosike described the achievement as a significant milestone in the agency’s efforts to improve the quality and reliability of its services to the aviation industry.
“We are excited about this. Our Quality Management System (QMS) team, led by Rotimi Adenubi, have been working round the clock to achieve this feat,” he said.
The NiMet boss, however, stressed that the agency would not rest on the achievement, saying management remained committed to improving operational standards across its locations.
“We are not stopping here as management is focused on overall improvement of standards at all our operational locations,” Anosike added.
The agency noted that the successful certification of AeroMet products and services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri was particularly significant as it marked the first time the services at the three airports were subjected to an ISO 9001:2015 certification audit.
NiMet said the achievement further demonstrates its commitment to providing internationally compliant meteorological services capable of supporting safe and efficient flight operations across Nigerian airports.
