Eko Disco Announces Drop In Power Allocation To 347MW, Cites Low Generation
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) says its power allocation has dropped from 486MW to 347MW due to constraints on the national grid and low generation from a major power source, forcing a temporary adjustment to supply on some feeders, including Band A.
The company, in a Public Notice to customers on Friday, said it was working with its transmission partners to restore allocation and would shift the reduction to lower-tier feeders where possible, assuring customers that normal supply would resume once allocation improves. It apologised for the inconvenience caused.
The development comes as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) moved to correct what it described as misinformation earlier circulated by EKEDC regarding an incident at the Lekki Transmission Substation on 26th August 2026.
According to TCN, contrary to EKEDC’s claim that its T11 transformer tripped unexpectedly and was awaiting inspection, the actual incident involved the simultaneous tripping of EKEDC’s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders at 4:34am on the same day, caused by overcurrent and earth fault.
TCN said the fault led to the inter-tripping of its TR1-60MVA 132/33kV transformer’s primary and secondary breakers, accompanied by a heavy bang and smoke.
TCN said its maintenance crew responded promptly, rehabilitating the damaged secondary breaker and restoring both breakers later that day. However, it noted that a further trip occurred when EKEDC attempted a trial closure of its Oniru feeder, prompting additional corrective work.
The transmission company clarified that no outage occurred on its T11 transformer as claimed, stressing that the incident was strictly linked to EKEDC’s Oniru and Agungi feeders.
It said its technical team remained on-site working to restore supply within the shortest possible time, and reiterated its commitment to building a more robust transmission network.
Both companies apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
