Electricity: DisCos Metered 5m Out Of 13m Registered Customers -NERC

The latest report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) shows that the power Distribution Companies (DisCos) so far metered 5,932,733 electricity customers out of the 13, 301,551 registered customers, indicating a 44.60 percent metering rate.

NERC in its report also revealed that a total of 79,837 customers were metered by the power Companies in February 2024.

The Commission further disclosed that about 98.117 customer complaints were received within the period.

Out of these complaints, it said, 54.23 percent were on metering, 10.53 percent were on Billing, and 8.97 percent were on Service Interruption.

According to the data released by the Commission, out of 193.46 registered customers of Aba power, the company was able to meter 60.39, thus achieving a 13. 22 percent metering rate.

Abuja DisCo, out of 1,434.93 registered customers, metered 873.34 customers, thus achieving 60.86 percent metering rate.
Benin DisCo, out of 1,344.54 registered customers, metered 668.87 customers, therefore, achieving 49.75 percent metering rate.
Eko DisCo, out of 756.33 registered customers, metered 435.97 customers, achieving 57.64 percent metering rate.
Enugu DisCo, out of 1.396.44 registered customers, metered 628.04 customers, achieving 44.97 percent metering rate.
Ibadan DisCo, out of 2, 447.85 registered customers, metered 1,058.77, thus achieving 43.25 percent metering rate.
Ikeja DisCo, out of 1, 250.26 registered customers, metered 913.72 customers, achieving 73.08 percent metering rate.
Jos DisCos, out of 737.58 registered customers, metered 246.85 customers, achieving 33.47 percent metering rate.
Kaduna DisCo, out of 868.05 registered customers, metered 208.16 customers, achieving 23.98 percent.
Kano DisCo, out of 876.97 registered customers, metered 211.09 customers, achieving 24.07 percent metering rate.
Port Harcourt DisCo, out of 1,179.19 registered customers, metered 500.81 customers, achieving 42.47 percent metering rate.
Yola DisCo, out of 815.88 registered customers, metered 126.67 customers, achieving 15.53 percent metering rate.
However, with the deregulation of the price of meters under Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Scheme by NERC yesterday, this identified metering gap may soon be bridged.
