FG Restates Commitment To Energy Security, Financial Viability Of Sector

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to the ideals of energy security, transition, and financial viability of the sector.

This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. George Akume while drawing the curtains on the 7th edition of the Nigeria International Summit (NIES 2024) on Friday, March 1, 2024, in Abuja.

Dr. Akume who stated that Nigeria’s energy sector was set to undergo transformative changes, expressed optimism that the summit would catalyse positive change, innovation, and resilience in the face of the challenges that lie ahead.

He noted that the discussions and relationships fostered within the weeklong annual event would yield tangible results capable of charting a course for the future of energy in Nigeria.

Akume said: “The theme for this year’s summit, “Navigating the New Energy World Order: Security, Transition, and Finance,” underscores the complexities and challenges the nation faces in the dynamic landscape of the global energy sector.

He said, “in the spirit of inclusivity and cooperation, this summit has provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on innovations, policies, advancements, and the overall trajectory of the energy sector in Nigeria.

“The knowledge shared and relationships fostered during this summit will undoubtedly serve as catalysis for the transformative changes that lie ahead.

“I look forward to witnessing the impact of the ideas and strategies generated here as we work together to navigate the new energy world order for the renewed hope agenda of this administration.”

Also delivering his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Amb. Nicholas Agbo, said, the online streaming of the event exceeded expectations, bringing in 700,000 participants, adding, that the depth and diversity of perspectives shared during the summit would increase the understanding of the Nigerian energy sector, and crystallize into a comprehensive report that will be shared with the government.

Amb. Agbo said, the invaluable document would be transmitted to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for onward conveyance to the highest level of authority, encapsulating the collective wisdom and insights garnered from the summit.

According to him, the discussions at the summit underscored the imperatives of energy security, exploring strategies to diversify sources and fortify infrastructure against geopolitical uncertainties.

He said, the role of technological innovation, including artificial intelligence and digitization, was acknowledged as a key driver in optimizing energy process, adding that the summit also underscored the importance of resilience in the face of uncertainties, requiring strategic planning, adaptability, and a feasible long-term energy framework.
