Group Hails Tinubu, Military For Eliminating Over 13,000 Terrorists In One Year
By Sunday Sunday
A pro-government group has praised the President Bola Tinubu administration and the Nigerian military for what it described as significant security gains over the past year, including the elimination of more than 13,000 terrorists and the arrest of 17,000 others.
The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), in a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, said the figures were evidence of the administration’s seriousness in prosecuting the war against terrorism across the country.
The group cited President Tinubu’s own announcement that sustained military pressure had led to an 81% decline in terrorism-related deaths since 2023, describing the development as a major milestone in Nigeria’s long-running battle against violent insurgency.
Beyond battlefield gains, the TMV also highlighted the process on the rehabilitation front, noting that over 124,000 fighters and their dependents had voluntarily surrendered and laid down their arms through the Operation Safe Corridor programme, a figure it said was confirmed by National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
The group attributed the military’s improved performance to better equipment, stronger morale, and a shift from training exercises with allied nations, including the United States, France, and other European partners, to activate joint operations targeting terrorist groups.
On the humanitarian side, the TMV commended the Nigerian army for rescuing 337 kidnap victims and recovering more than 4,100 rustled cattle across Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States, crediting the Joint Task Force under Operation Whirl Stroke for those results.
The group also noted the federal government’s standing offer for amnesty to fighters willing to surrender, warning that those who failed to take up the opportunity would face the full force of the law.
TMV attributed the overall security improvements to the administration’s increased deployment of technology and intelligence-gathering in counter-terrorism operations.
