Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has won a second term in office, defeating his closest rival by more than 66,000 votes in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Accord Party candidate winner on Sunday morning after collation was completed across the state’s 30 local government areas.
INEC Returning Officer, Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced that Adeleke polled 511067 votes to beat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 and ADC’s Najeem Salaan, who trailed in third with 17,180 votes.
The result gives Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji.
A total of 2,339,544 votes were registered for the election, of whom 1,010.684 were accredited to vote. Of the votes cast, 985,079 were valid, while 20,721 were rejected, bringing total votes cast to 1,005,800.
Adeleke’s victory extends his hold on the governorship after he first won the seat in 2022. The trend held steady through the collation process, with Adeleke maintaining a consistent lead over Oyebamiji across most of the state’s local government areas.
