By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Gunmen have killed popular Anambra comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, and another man in separate attacks in Awka, the state capital.

Confirming the killings on Monday, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incidents occurred late Sunday, August 30, 2026, at S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, and Capital City Road, Amaenyi.
According to him, preliminary information indicated that three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla carried out the attacks. He said police patrol teams responded to distress calls, recovered the victims and took them to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead. Nwosu was identified as one of the victims, while the identity of the second victim remained unknown.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation. Police also recovered N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the crime scenes, while a manhunt has been launched for the suspects.

Eyewitnesses, however, said the assailants allegedly trailed Nwosu from his residence before double-crossing his vehicle and opening fire. One witness said the comedian was left in a pool of blood inside his vehicle, adding that the gunmen subsequently shot another man by the roadside, dispossessed him of his belongings and fled after firing several shots into the air.

The motive for the attacks has not been established, although some residents suspected possible links to cult-related activities. The police condemned the killings and urged residents, community leaders, motorists and business owners with information about the suspects or their vehicle to assist investigators, assuring them of confidentiality.
