Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have dismantled a major drug distribution network in Lagos.
Disclosing this in a statement to on Wednesday, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said operatives raided three concealed warehouses inside a residential estate in the Okota area and recovered opioids valued at a staggering ₦16.9 billion.
Babafemi revealed that the intelligence-led operation, carried out on April 17, 2026, uncovered a massive cache of illicit substances, including 2,360,000 high-potency tramadol (225mg) pills and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup. The drugs were hidden across multiple locations within Park View Estate, Ago Palace, highlighting how traffickers are embedding operations within everyday neighborhoods.
In total, officers recovered 19,094 cartons containing the codeine syrup, alongside an additional 34 cartons filled with tramadol pills—quantities authorities describe as capable of fueling widespread substance abuse and criminal activity.
Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, said the operation delivers a “staggering blow” to the pharmaceutical black market and signals the dismantling of a powerful drug syndicate. He praised the precision and coordination of the agency’s operatives, calling the seizure a landmark victory in Nigeria’s anti-drug campaign.
Marwa warned traffickers that no hiding place remains safe, stressing that whether drugs are concealed in luxury homes or suburban warehouses, the agency will track them down.
“We will find you, dismantle your networks, and bring the full weight of the law upon you,” he declared.
He further noted that the scale of the recovery—nearly 4.3 million units of dangerous substances—demonstrates both the desperation of drug cartels and the growing sophistication of NDLEA intelligence efforts.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on drug networks, vowing to continue targeting the financial and operational backbone of trafficking syndicates across the country.
