Jos Electrocution: NERC Receives Formal Report, Assures Thorough Investigation

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said it has received a formal report of the recent electrocution in the Gada Biu – Kabong Village along Rukuba Barracks road in Jos, Plateau State.

NERC in a statement on Monday said the matter would be swiftly and thoroughly investigated to identify the immediate and remote causative factors.

The Commission said, the accident was reported to have occurred on 14th October 2023 and the initial reports indicate that it resulted in the fatal electrocution of a number of persons.

NERC, however, extends its utmost condolences to the family members and Gada Biu–Kabong Village affected by the loss.

The Commission said it has also received a formal report from the distribution licensee, Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, responsible for service in the area.

NERC, according to the statement, said, it “remains committed to ensuring public safety in the delivery of services in the NESI in line with our zero tolerance for accident policy and assures the general public that the matter shall be investigated and treated in accordance with extant safety codes and regulations”.

TheFact Daily Recall, that the Commission is still investigating a similar incident that occurred on October 2, 2023, in the Dinyavo area of Jalingo, Taraba.

The Commission said preliminary “reports indicate that it resulted in the fatal electrocution of four members of a family with the youngest child miraculously escaping unharmed”.
