NASENI Empowers 1,000 Lagos Residents With Clean Energy Solutions, Skills Training

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has extended its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to Lagos State, providing 1,000 beneficiaries with clean energy products, livelihood support and technical skills training as part of its drive to bring practical science and technology solutions directly to Nigerian communities.
Held in Ikeja, according to a statement on Sunday by the NASENI’s Director of Information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, the programme distributed 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 NASENI Home Solar Solutions and NASENI Support Packs, alongside hands-on training in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and electrical maintenance.
Speaking at the event, NASENI Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Khalil Suleiman Halilu noted that the Lagos programme followed a similar intervention in Ohafia, Abia State, just a day earlier, underscoring the agency’s commitment to reaching Nigerians nationwide.
“For us at NASENI, science, technology and engineering must ultimately improve lives. Innovation only becomes meaningful when it solves real problems for real people,” he said.
Halilu explained that the power stoves offer cleaner, more efficient cooking alternatives that reduce reliance on traditional methods, while the solar solutions give households and small businesses reliable renewable energy to extend productive hours and support economic activity.
He said the Lagos edition was deliberately structured to pair product distribution with market-relevant skills training, so beneficiaries could convert their new abilities into income-generating services and businesses.
“We want beneficiaries to move from learning to earning, and from receiving support to becoming productive economic participants,” he added, stressing that NASENI’s success would be measured by tangible outcomes: reduced energy challenges, new income from trained skills, and businesses created or expanded.
Representing the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. Fuad Kayode Laguda, lawmaker for Surulere I Federal Constituency, commended NASENI for bringing the initiative to Lagos and called for its expansion to more communities across the state.
Also present, the Chairman of the NCC Governing Board, Chief Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe, represented by Ikeja Local Government Chairman Hon. Akeem Dauda, praised the programme’s emphasis on clean energy and sustainable livelihoods, while Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, represented by Hon. Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, described it as a practical example of government interventions reaching ordinary citizens.
Through NSEP, NASENI continues to deliver practical technologies, relevant skills and livelihood support across the country, demonstrating how science and engineering can translate into jobs, enterprise and improved living standards for Nigerians.
