The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has been recognized as the 2025/2026 Best Federal MDA for Digital Transformation at the 8th Nigeria E-Government Summit and Awards, beating out two other shortlisted government agencies in a public vote.
NASENI, in a statement on Tuesday, said the ceremony, held recently in Ikeja, Lagos, celebrated the agency’s continued reforms and operational efficiency under the leadership of Executive Vice Chairman Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu.
Of the three Federal MDAs nominated in the category, NASENI secured 57.4% of the vote, ahead of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), which took first runner-up with 25.6%, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), which placed second runner-up with 16.9%. The rankings covered the 2025/2026 assessment period.
Summit convener Engr. Lanre Ajayi said the win reflects a notable turning point in NASENI’s transformation since Halilu took charge of the agency.
Mr. Halilu was represented at the award dinner by the Director of Information, New Media and Protocol, Mr. Segun Ayeoyenikan, who briefed attendees on NASENI’s digital transformation drive, including gains from its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the EVC/CEO, Ayeoyenikan described NASENI as a leading voice in pushing for full digitization of governance systems in Nigeria.
He noted that paper-based processes have been phased out across the agency’s offices, with digitization now extending beyond administration to all operational areas — underscoring, he said, how seriously NASENI takes efficiency and productivity gains from modernized systems.
Ajayi also used his remarks to stress the scale and credibility of the voting process, noting that 33,785 Nigerians cast ballots to determine the winners, with safeguards in place to prevent duplicate voting.
He described the recognition as belonging to public servants, technologists and government leaders who are pushing for better service delivery rather than accepting the status quo.
The Nigeria e-Government Excellence Awards remains the flagship recognition programme of the Nigeria Government Summit, widely regarded as the country’s leading annual platform for advancing digital governance.
