The Nigerian Navy has destroyed an illegal refining site in Promise Land Community, along Nanabie Creek in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, in a fresh move to deny oil thieves the facilities needed to process stolen crude.
Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, in a statement on Saturday disclosed that the operation was carried out by personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny.
Captain Folorunsho said the site was found on September 30, 2026, after the Navy acted on credible intelligence, adding that the site had one large cooking pot and three large storage tanks meant for illegal refining.
He further disclosed that on October 2, 2026, the Commanding Officer of FOB Bonny, Captain SMC Umeh, led a team to the location, where the site and its equipment were destroyed in line with established regulations.
According to the Navy, the action further disrupts illegal refining capacity in the Bonny area, particularly by removing infrastructure that could be used to process and store stolen crude oil.
It also follows recent operations by FOB Bonny under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, which uncovered large volumes of suspected stolen crude oil and other illegal refining infrastructure within its Area of Operations.
The Navy said it has continued to strengthen surveillance and monitoring across the area to stop the setting up or reactivation of illegal refining sites.
It added that the aim is to deny criminal operators the infrastructure needed to sustain crude oil theft and related activities.
