Navy Discovers 85,000 Litres Of Suspected Stolen Crude In Rivers

By Sunday Etuka

The Nigerian Navy has disrupted a fresh attempt to revive illegal oil bunkering activities in Rivers State with the discovery of about 85000 litres of substance suspected to be stolen crude oil.

The Director of Naval Information, Captain AA Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the operation was carried out by Forward Operating Base Bonny on September 29, 2026, at Allison area following actionable intelligence on a new illegal bunkering site.

According to the statement, troops uncovered 16 concealed dugout pits, including four containing about 40000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and three others holding about 45000 litres suspected to be awaiting processing. Hoses used to move crude oil were also recovered at the site.

The Navy said the latest operation comes barely a week after the deactivation of a major illegal refining camp in the same area on September 22, 2026, noting that successive interventions show sustained pressure against attempts to regenerate illicit oil processing capacity.

It added that the recovered suspected stolen crude and associated items were handled in line with established procedures.

The operation, the Navy said, reinforces the importance of sustained intelligence led presence in denying criminal operators the infrastructure needed to store, process and move stolen crude oil.
