NCoS Offers N5m Bounty For Fleeing Osun Inmates

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced a N5 million reward for credible information that will lead to the recapture of the seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.

The Service’s spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Umar Abubakar, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the reward was being offered to encourage public participation aimed at recapturing the escapees.

It will be recalled that the jailbreak occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday after a heavy downpour breached the facility’s perimeter fence, creating an opportunity for the inmates to flee.

Abubakar urged members of the public to report any information on the whereabouts of the escapees to the nearest security agency, assuring that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality and anonymity.

Following the jailbreak, security has been tightened around the facility, with armed military and other security operatives, including armed-wielding DSS, Police, and NSCDC stationed there.

The state Command’s Public Relations Officer, Joel Oyedokun, confirmed that security has been beefed up around the facility, adding that the State Commandant, Corrections Centre, has relocated to Ilesa to personally supervise the manhunt for the escapees.

“The Army, DSS are working with us to bring back those who escaped from the facility”, he said.
