The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken steps to reinforce its grassroots organization in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), elevating Moses Okorie, former Acting Chairman of Garki Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), to the position of Assistant Publicity Secretary for the party in the FCT.
The appointment came out of a strategic meeting of the Garki Ward and FCT Reconciliation Community, held Saturday at the NDC’s national headquarters in Wuse II, Abuja. Party leaders, ward executives and supporters attended, including the NDC’s FCT leader and senatorial candidate, Barrister Amanda Pam.
Pam nominated Okorie for the role, and with the agreement of other state executives present, he was admitted into the FCT Working Committee and also named party leader for Garki Ward.
Party officials said the appointment forms part of a broader effort to consolidate its structures, promote inclusion and build up its mobilisation and communication capacity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okorie, a journalist by profession, said he intends to draw on his professional background, media contacts and grassroots relationships to help promote the party’s programmes and candidates throughout the FCT.
He also committed to working closely with FCT Publicity Secretary Pastor Samuel Iloh to build a stronger publicity network for reaching residents across the territory.
“I appreciate Barrister Amanda Pam for the confidence reposed in me. I will use my connections as a journalist to propagate the activities of the NDC across the FCT and work hand-in-hand with my immediate boss, Pastor Samuel Iloh,” Okorie said, adding that he would work to justify the trust placed in him and remain committed to the party’s interests.
Separately, Dr Okechukwu Ironkwe was named the new Chairman of Garki Ward, along with the rest of the newly formed ward executive. As part of the handover, Okorie transferred the ward’s membership register and other administrative records to Ironkwe.
Party members said the restructuring should improve coordination at the ward level and strengthen the platform for grassroots mobilisation heading into the 2027 elections.
Ward members reaffirmed their support for the NDC and pledged to campaign for the party’s candidates, including Hassan Grema for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat, Amanda Pam for the Senate, and the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Party stakeholders said the changes reflect the NDC’s broader push to build a stronger grassroots presence and a more effective political structure in the FCT ahead of the 2027 polls.
Party leadership has called on members to deepen unity, expand mobilisation efforts, and carry the party’s message directly to voters across the territory.
