Nigeria’s Electricity Metering Rate Climbs To 61.51% As DisCos Ramp Up Installations

More than 7.7 million electricity customers across Nigeria now have meters installed, according to the latest data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The Commission’s Metering Status factsheet for May and June 2026 shows the national metering rate rose to 61.51% by the end of June, climbing from 60.22% the previous month, as Distribution Companies (DisCos) accelerated efforts to close the country’s metering gap.
Meter deployment nearly doubled month-on-month, with DisCos installing 203,521 new meters in June compared to 104,585 in May.
Among the 11 distribution companies, Eko Electricity Distribution Company led the pack with an 88.70% metering rate, followed closely by Ikeja Electric at 87.91% and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company at 81.38%.
Overall, 7,743,839 of Nigeria’s 12,589,486 active electricity customers now have meters, according to the report, leaving over 4.8 million customers still awaiting installation as regulators push DisCos to close the remaining gap.
