By Sunday Etuka
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has taken part in a national workshop in Abuja aimed at examining the reforms introduced by the Electricity Act 2023 and the openings it creates for a multi-level electricity market in Nigeria.
The system operator joined other stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry at the National Workshop on the Electricity Act 2023 on Wednesday.
NISO’s delegation was headed by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed.
He was accompanied by the Company Secretary and General Manager, Legal, Barr. Bashir Ahmed, and the Assistant General Manager, Legal, Hajiya Maryam Gabdo Malabu.
The two-day event took place at the State House Banquet Hall in the Presidential Villa.
It was organised by the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with AllStates Management Partners Solutions Limited.
Participants focused on what the Act means for the sector, especially the emerging multi-level market structure and how it allows states to set up sustainable electricity markets, attract investment and improve power supply.
The workshop also featured panel sessions involving experts and industry stakeholders. These sessions gave participants a platform to review how the reforms are being implemented, deal with emerging challenges and consider practical ways of strengthening electricity markets across the country.
