NUPENG Recommits To Demanding Justice, Compensation For Injured, Deceased Workers

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has expressed commitment to demanding justice and compensation for their members who were injured or lost their lives in the course of their work and services to humanity. 

NUPENG made the commitment in a statement Signed by its President, Comrade Prince Williams Akporeha and the General-Secretary, Comrade Afolabi Olawal to commemorate the 2024 International Day for the Dead and Injured Workers.

While using the occasion to celebrate and honour the memories of the ultimate sacrifices of their amazing Comrades, the leadership of the Union recommitted itself to fighting for safer working conditions and sustainable environment for all. 

NUPENG said: “As workers in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry, we do not only know the risks and hazards that come with our jobs, but we are also very conscious and concerned with the impacts of our operations on the environment. 

“We also know that every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of each day and must leave the environment in a safe and sustainable way for future generations. 

“To our NUPENG members, in all sectors of the Petroleum and Natural Gas industry, we salute your courage and resilience! Your dedication to your work and commitment to the union are amazing motivation for our struggles and Solidarity. 

“Let us use this day to renew our resolve to fight for better working conditions, better protective equipment, improved emergency response systems, just energy and a sustainable environment. 

“Let us stand in solidarity with the families of those who have lost loved ones and let us continue to demand justice and compensation for those who have been injured or killed on the job as well as fair and just energy transition for a better and sustainable future for all. 

“Our Solidarity Remains Constant for the Union makes us Strong!”, the Union said in the statement.
