Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers, Recover N5m Ransome

The Delta state Police Command says its operatives have arrested 5 suspected kidnappers and recovered the sum of 5 million naira ransome.

The state Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this on Tuesday, attributed the arrest to its intensified security crackdowns on kidnappers in the state as well as its unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements.

According to him, the Command’s Special Anti-kidnapping and cyber crime squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, on 12th July 2025, trailed suspected kidnappers terrorising the state, to their hideout at Ogwashi Ukwu, Oshimili North LGA where a suspected kidnapper, identified as Sanusi Abdulahi, was arrested in possession of a ransom of 5,000,000 naira, being part of the ransom they collected from one of thier victims.

Preliminary investigation revealed that they were allegedly responsible for a series of kidnappings at Ibusa, Ogwash-Ukwu, Ubulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, Isele-Asagba and most recently the kidnapping of a young lady at Ogwash-Ukwu on the 9th July 2025.

The suspect led the operatives to their hideout at Second Deputy, and Oko in Asaba, where four other members of his gang were also arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

Furthermore, a sting operation conducted by operatives of the CP-Special assignment team on the 9th of July, 2025, at about 8:35 am, along the Patani-Ughelli expressway, near the Unenurhei axis, led to an encounter with heavily armed suspects at their hideout.

A fierce gun duel ensued, during which the suspects and their gang members sustained serious gunshot injuries. They were taken to the hospital, where six of them were confirmed dead while two others are still receiving treatment.

Exhibits recovered include 4 locally-made guns and 19 rounds of live cartridges.
