Oloworaran, Ifeanyi-Okoro, Odunaiya, Others To Headline 2026 PenCAN Conference In Abuja

By Sunday Etuka

The Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms Omolola Oloworaran; the Chief Executive Officer of the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp), Anthonia Ifeanyi Okoro; the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Ms Tolulope Odunaiya; and other industry stakeholders are scheduled to attend the 2026 edition of the Pension Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PenCAN) Conference in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement made available on Sunday by the PenCAN President, Hajiya Nana Musa.

She said the conference, themed “The Role of Pension Regulator, Operators in Actualising $1trn Economy Target,” will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, development partners, industry experts and government functionaries. They will examine how the pension industry can help advance the nation’s economy.

The event comes at a critical time, as the Federal Government pursues reforms and investments aimed at improving pension benefits and deepening pension coverage across the country.

Scheduled for November 11, 2026, the conference is also expected to offer a fertile platform for industry experts and pensioners to exchange ideas on how to move the sector forward.

Key areas of discussion will include the growth of pension assets from ₦20.79 trillion in July 2024 to ₦31.8 trillion in August 2026, and the President’s approval of the first ever Exit Benefit for retirees of Federal Government treasury funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Other issues on the agenda are the target of three million additional funded active accounts within the next year, the President’s launch of PenCare and the Minimum Pension Guarantee, a call on the private sector to join the Federal Government and the industry in funding the Pension Protection Fund, and a call on the industry to deliver competitive real returns above inflation.

The annual event is organised by PenCAN, an association of reporters and editors covering the pension industry in Nigeria, as part of its commitment to promoting informed industry conversations, constructive engagement and public understanding of developments in the sector.

The gathering was encouraged by the continued reforms sweeping through Nigeria’s pension industry. These reforms are aimed squarely at strengthening retirement security, improving transparency and restoring public confidence in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Under the leadership of PenCom’s Director General, Ms Omolola Oloworaran, the sector has kept its eyes fixed on what matters most: protecting contributors’ hard earned funds while steadily improving service delivery and widening the scope of investment opportunities available to the scheme.
