Police, Army Clash Leaves One Dead In Taraba

At least one person, a police officer, has reportedly lost his life following a fierce gun battle between police officers and personnel of the Nigerian Army, in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

The cause of the crisis could not be ascertained as the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, could not be reached for comments.

However, a source disclosed that the crisis started when a soldier asked a policewoman to identify herself and some misunderstanding ensued that escalated into an all out battle.

“I can confirm that one policeman has been killed. There may be more casualties on both sides”, the source said.

The incident was said to have occurred near the State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Jalingo.
