The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says its operatives have arrested six suspects for their involvement in cultism.
Akwa Ibom Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Timfon John, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said, the arrest follows the raid of a criminal hideout in Afaha Offiong community in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, the raid was carried out by the Command’s operatives acting on the directives of the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara,following receipt of intelligence reports available at the Command’s disposal about nefarious activities in a section of the Community.
Upon mobilization of operatives to the community, John said, the efforts yielded quick results leading to the arrest of six male persons suspected to be cultists and drug dealers. They are: Kufre Godwin Okon, Uko Monday Edet, Cyril Micheal, Gabriel Effiong, Joseph Effiong Okon, and Udofia Emmanuel Udofia.
Operatives also recovered two bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, substances suspected to be cocaine and some cocktail concoctions.
It added that investigation is ongoing as efforts are in place to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate.
While reassuring residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements, CP Ayilara, urged them to always report any suspicious movements or suspicious persons to the nearest police station, “as this will help the Police cultivate and act on the information towards keeping the state safe and secured”.
