Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s SWAT unit have arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and recovered a stolen cow valued at ₦1,700,000, alongside a knife and the operational vehicle used in the crime, following a swift response to a distress call in the Ifo/Ibogun axis.
According to a statement by the state command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 30 April 2026, at about 2:30 a.m., when a group of suspected rustlers invaded a dairy farm at Omitoro Village via Coker and made away with a cow.
Acting promptly on the alert, SWAT operatives mobilised to the scene and tracked the suspects, who attempted to escape in a minibus popularly known as “Korope.” Their movement raised suspicion, triggering an alarm that aided their interception.
The operation led to the arrest of Muhammed Monsur and Olaseinde Olatunji. Recovered exhibits include the stolen cow, a knife, and the mini bus used for the operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are members of a four-man syndicate, with two accomplices fleeing into the surrounding bush.
The vehicle has been secured at the Ibogun SWAT office, while the recovered cow was documented and returned to its owner after necessary care.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing gang members. The case will be transferred to the appropriate unit for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their rapid response, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements.
