Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Reunite Him With Family, In Benue

Police in Benue State have confirmed the rescue of a kidnap victim, who has now been reunited with his family.

The rescue of the kidnap victim, Peter Ogbonna, was confirmed today in a statement issued by the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Anene Catherine Sewuese.

According to her, the rescue was the result of ongoing operations to clamp down on kidnappers in the state, as police operatives from Operation Zenda crack squad extended their work to Logo Local Government Area.

TheFact Nigeria reports that Peter Ogbonna, a businessman in Ugba, headquarters of Logo Local government area of the State was said to have been kidnapped last Thursday.

The rescue mission happened barely three days after the same operatives of Operation Zenda rescued the wife of one of the State’s Commissioner’s alongside her driver.

According to DSP Anene, police operatives, upon receiving information that the gunmen were in a hideout at Tse-Atoov, Alabar, Logo LGA, quickly swung into action and invaded the hideout.

On sighting the police, suspects engaged them in an exchange of gun fire but the police were able to subdue them. Three of the suspects were arrested at the scene, while one, who sustained gunshot injuries, was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. While his corpse has been deposited at the morgue, two others, identified as Yakyuur Aondona and Teryange Myina are currently undergoing interrogation.

Mr. Ogbonna, who was rescued unhurt has since been reunited with his family.

A fabricated barretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the kidnappers’ hideout.

Anene also disclosed that cordon and search operations are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects with gunshot wounds. She also advices members of the public with useful information about the whereabout of these suspects to quickly inform the police for necessary action.
