Pope Francis Creates Wukari Diocese, Names New Bishop

Pope Francis has created the Diocese of Wukari, and appointed Rev. Fr. Mark Nzukwein, as the first Bishop of the Diocese.

The development was contained in a statement made available on Wednesday by the National Director of Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat Of Nigeria(CSN), Padre Mike Umoh in Abuja.

Fr. Mark is a priest of Jalingo Diocese and currently the Rector of St. Augustine Major Seminary in Jos.

Wukari Diocese was carved out of Jalingo Diocese and becomes a suffragan of the Metropolitan See of Jos.

Born on July 15, 1969 in Jenuwa Nyifiye and ordained a Catholic Priest for Jalingo Diocese in July 15, 1995, Msgr. Mark studied philosophy at the St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Makurdi from 1987 to 1990; and theology at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Jos from 1991 to 1995.

Besides serving as a Rector of the Major Seminary, Msgr. Mark has held many offices in the Church including being Rector of Scared Heart Minor Seminary and Vicar General of Jalingo Diocese.
