In the spirit of Sallah celebration, the Katsina State Government has facilitated the release of 222 inmates jailed for minor offences.

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Radda facilitated their release from the correctional facilities across the state by paying the fines imposed on them by the various courts of law.

The Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Katsina State, Fadila Mohammad Esq. who disclosed this in a statement on Monday said, the inmates were unable to pay the fines imposed on them by various courts of law.

She noted that the inmates in question were those charged with minor commercial and non capital offenses.

She said: “After a thorough verification process, they were recommended to the state for intervention regarding the payment of the fines holding them in the correctional facilities.

“This compassionate gesture from the state Government will have a profound impact, as it will help alleviate congestion in the correctional facilities.

“Furthermore, it will enable the released inmates to celebrate Sallah with their loved ones”, she said.
