The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the remand of a traffic offender, Suleiman Abubakar, at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre for seven days following his arraignment before a Magistrate Court on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

The Corps, in a statement signed by Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri on Friday, said the suspect was apprehended along the Nasarawa–Keffi route at about 1500hrs while driving a Toyota Previa with registration number KMC 566CY, after being flagged down for overloading.

Further checks revealed that the offender was driving without a valid driver’s licence. He subsequently attempted to bribe operatives of the RS4.33 Nasarawa Unit Command—an offer that was firmly rejected. In a dramatic escalation, the suspect forcefully abducted the Patrol Team Leader in a bid to evade arrest.

The officer, however, displayed remarkable courage, resisted the attack, and successfully neutralised the situation after the vehicle had travelled approximately three kilometres from the patrol point.

Following his arrest, the vehicle was impounded, while the suspect was handed over to the Nigeria Police, Nasarawa Division, for prosecution. At the court hearing, he pleaded guilty to all five charges brought against him.

Consequently, the presiding Magistrate ordered his remand at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre for seven days, pending judgement scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the Judiciary for its firm stance and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting its personnel. He noted that the FRSC is making significant strides in curbing assaults on its operatives, as offenders are increasingly being prosecuted and brought to justice.
