The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces that there was a forced outage on the Alaoji 132kV Transmission Line at about 3:59am today, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, due to an earth fault and distance protection failure.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who announced the development in a statement, disclosed that the company’s maintenance crew have since swung into action and are currently working on the line to ensure that normal bulk power supply is restored as quickly as possible.
Following the outage, TCN said the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has been unable to off-take electricity supply for distribution to its customers in Owerri, Yenagoa, and Ahoada.
It apologises for any inconvenience the outage may have caused affected electricity customers.
Recall that in May, 2026, the 450-megawatts Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant was successfully restored to operations by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC)
after three years of shutdown.
The plant, located in Abia State, was shut down in 2023 following dispute over gas metering and trading points that prompted supplier, TotalEnergies to suspend gas supply to the facility.
However, the NDPHC Managing Director, Jennifer Adighijie disclosed during her recent visit to the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, that the plant has been restored, explaining that the restoration of the plant has been the priority of her administration since assumption of office in 2024.
