The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun urgent repair works on Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line, after the structures were vandalized.
TCN’s Regional Manager, Engr. Nasir Bello, represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr. Ubani Raymond, who disclosed this during a recent site inspection said it was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with engineering specifications and allowing for prompt corrections where necessary.
Dr. Raymond, according to a statement on Monday TCN, noted that the rehabilitation works had recorded significant progress, as the vandalized towers had been fully dismantled and their bases solidly recast.
He called on residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and to help safeguard critical power infrastructure in their communities against criminal elements.
Also speaking at the site, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for rigorous monitoring to ensure engineering standards were followed and the quality of work guaranteed.
He commended TCN Management for engaging two contractors to accelerate project execution, though he noted that the difficult terrain and ongoing rainfall had slowed the pace of work.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, commending the contractors for their dedication and their understanding of the urgency surrounding the project’s completion.
