Three transmission towers have collapsed along the 132kV Birnin Kebbi to Niamey line, prompting the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to declare force majeure and disrupting bulk power supply to Niamey.
TCN said the line first tripped on 26th August 2026 at 5:38pm. Engineers attempted a trial reclosure at 6:03pm, but the line tripped again immediately.
A subsequent fault-finding patrol by TCN linesmen traced the problem to Chibike village, where towers T109, T110 and T111 had collapsed. The company attributed the collapse to heavy rain and windstorm activity in the area.
TCN confirmed that the fault has disrupted bulk power transmission to Niamey through the affected line. In response, the company said it has deployed personnel and resources to the site, with all hands on deck to expedite rehabilitation of the damaged towers and restore the line to service as quickly as possible.
TCN apologized for the disruption to customers in Niamey and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring normal supply as soon as possible.
