President Bola Tinubu has extended condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, describing the loss as a painful blow to the First Family and the Tanzanian nation.
In a statement issued late on Monday, Tinubu said he received the news of Hafidh Ameir Hassan’s passing with deep sadness, calling President Samia his “dear sister and colleague.”
He noted that the couple had been married for almost five decades, with Hassan standing quietly beside her through every stage of her public service to Tanzania.
“A companionship of that depth becomes part of who a person is,” Tinubu said. “To lose it is to lose a portion of oneself, and I feel for her deeply.”
The Nigerian leader said President Samia had lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and the family one of its pillars.
On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, and his own family, Tinubu conveyed his deepest condolences to President Samia, her children, the Hassan family, and the people of Tanzania.
He added that at such moments, the bonds uniting Africans matter even more, stressing that Nigeria mourns alongside Tanzania and stands with President Samia’s family in their hour of grief.
Tinubu prayed for the Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest, comfort those he left behind, and give President Samia and her family the strength to bear the loss.
