Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, supported by the Nigerian Air Force and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military location in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Joint Task Force said in a statement on Tuesday by its Acting Military Information Officer, Capt. Mohammed Goni, that the attack occurred on September 7, 2026, as troops sustained counter-terrorism operations in the area.
According to the statement, the troops held their positions and responded with sustained firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon the assault and withdraw with casualties. It said military positions across Pulka remained firmly under the control of security forces.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support and conducted precision strikes against fleeing terrorist elements, disrupting their withdrawal and attempts to regroup. The CJTF also supported the operation with local intelligence and situational awareness.
One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to the left arm during the encounter and was evacuated for medical treatment. He was stabilised and is responding to treatment in stable condition.
Following the terrorists’ withdrawal, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover abandoned weapons and equipment, and gather intelligence for follow-up operations. Troops remain on heightened alert, conducting patrols, surveillance and offensive operations to deny terrorist elements freedom of movement in the area.
