President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, as the Federal Government highlighted its road infrastructure projects at the party’s North-West zonal campaign rally in Kaduna.
Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said Tinubu made the appeal on Saturday at the Kaduna Township Stadium, where party leaders and supporters gathered for the flag-off of the APC’s presidential campaign mobilisation in the North-West.
The President urged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the electoral process, declaring: “Vote APC from top to bottom, APC everywhere.”
He also pledged to sustain infrastructure development and other programmes aimed at improving the welfare and prosperity of Nigerians, while commending governors, youths, traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their contributions to national development.
At the rally, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, presented figures on the Federal Government’s road construction programme, highlighting completed, ongoing and partially completed projects.
According to Umahi, the government had completed 348 kilometres of inherited and newly initiated road projects, while 4,084 kilometres of road projects were ongoing and another 1,811 kilometres were partially completed.
The figures highlight the scale of the government’s road infrastructure programme, as well as the substantial work required to complete projects and improve connectivity across the country.
Umahi identified the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway as one of the strategic corridors receiving attention, noting its importance to transportation, trade and economic activities linking the Federal Capital Territory with Kaduna and Kano states.
He also highlighted interventions in Kano State, including the Northern Bypass, the dualisation of the Kano–Maiduguri Road, Section I, covering Kano to Shuwarin, and the Yakasai–Badume–Damargu–Marken Jalli Road.
The minister said improved road networks would ease the movement of people and goods, reduce transportation difficulties, connect farmers to markets and strengthen commercial activities across the North-West.
He added that better connectivity could support agricultural supply chains, create employment opportunities and improve access to essential services, particularly for rural communities and businesses dependent on reliable transport links.
However, Umahi stressed the importance of sustained funding, effective supervision, timely execution and proper maintenance to ensure that ongoing projects were completed and delivered lasting benefits.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima also highlighted the administration’s development interventions in Northern Nigeria, particularly in road infrastructure, agriculture and regional connectivity.
Shettima commended Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure challenges in the region, saying improved roads were essential to linking farmers with markets, facilitating commerce and expanding economic opportunities. He also expressed confidence in the North-West’s continued political support for the President ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani urged Nigerians to assess government performance through verifiable achievements and tangible development outcomes rather than relying solely on narratives circulating on social media.
The Director-General of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, also called on political stakeholders to reject misinformation and promote constructive political participation, arguing that leadership should be assessed through performance and delivery.
A major highlight of the rally was the presentation of APC flags to seven governors from the North-West seeking re-election. The flags were presented by the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as part of the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The gathering attracted APC governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, party officials, youths, women’s groups and other supporters from across the country.
Tinubu was accompanied by his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while Shettima attended with his wife, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, alongside other senior government and party officials.
