Nigerian Army troops have arrested four suspected illegal arms fabricators and gunrunners in Plateau State and neutralised six terrorists during an attack on a military base in Adamawa State, recovering firearms, ammunition and other military equipment in separate operations.
According to the NA on Tuesday, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE in Plateau state arrested the four suspects during intelligence-led operations in Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas between October 7 and 11. Those arrested were identified as Ayuba Sunday Abot, a suspected arms fabricator in Heipang, Barkin Ladi, and three alleged gunrunners, Tangkat Danjuma, Kopdi Appollos and Nyam Nzang.
Items recovered included a locally fabricated revolver rifle and pistol, an AK-47 barrel and magazine, and 42 rounds of 7.62 × 54mm ammunition. Preliminary interrogation reportedly alleged that the ammunition was purchased for ₦3,000 per round from an unidentified soldier. The allegation remains unverified and is under investigation, while the suspects and recovered items are in military custody.
In Adamawa, troops of Sector 4, Operation HADIN KAI, repelled an attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Forward Operating Base Garaha in Hong Local Government Area at about 9:07 pm. The attackers reportedly advanced on foot from the LAR axis but were forced to retreat following the troops’ response. Subsequent operations recovered six terrorist corpses.
The troops also recovered six AK-47 rifles, a PKT machine gun, 11 AK-47 magazines, ammunition of different calibres, a 60mm mortar bomb and other equipment. The Army said its personnel sustained casualties during the encounter, with wounded soldiers receiving medical attention and evacuation arrangements underway.
The military said follow-up operations were continuing in both states to dismantle illegal arms networks, prevent further attacks and disrupt criminal activities. The operations form part of ongoing efforts to curb insecurity and restore peace across the affected areas.
